chromoly steel scooter deck

Has there ever been any thought on one, I thought of this by just looking at the bottom of my deck, and it was really worn down from grinds, I mean, I have always thought of it constantly, I know there are a few "homemade" decks and things like that, but truly will there ever be a steel deck, I mean, because this "modern day" bmx frame weighs 3 pounds (link below)

http://www.danscomp.com/products/211600/Premium_Gutter_Shark_Frame.html

now, if you looked at the link, and scrolled down on the page, it will say specifically 3 pounds 12 ounces, and if a bmx company can get a frame that light, being that there is more metal used on a bmx frame over how much is used to build a scooter deck, and that bmx frame is CHROMOLY STEEL, wouldn't a chromoly scooter deck, be much stronger being chromoly is a more what I call solid metal, it is harder, which will also grind at a much faster speed... and A LOT lighter

and think about this, the current average deck being in my mind, a 20" long by 4.5" wide deck would weigh around 3 pounds, and sure there are now more decks that weigh 2 pounds being district decks, envy aos v2, and the addict decks... also steel being chromoly would cost less than aluminum

so my real question is... do you think a chromoly deck would ever be made, and should one be made?

chromo bends pretty easily, even if its heat treated. it would be possible to make a deck from steel, but it would be hard to make it light and banana-proof.
and gutter sharks arent very strong lol. an average bmx frame is around 4lbs 10oz

Bike frames might have more tubing as far as distance goes, but all the tubing can be bigger diameter and thin walls, and since it's all made of triangles it will be pretty good. Scooters are just a straight line with pretty much no support. Pretty much every tube on a bike frame is supported pretty well by another tube.

well why not just put in some channels, you know like what they did with the fuzion elite deck, how they put in those reinforcement things, in the neck, why not do that with a chromoly deck, anyway a chromoly deck would be very innovative because you dont see very many bikers with aluminum pegs for grinds right? sure there are some but it is just not as common as bikers with chromoly pegs...

that is very true, but i am just saying it would be a good idea if it can be done, but there can be another way around that i think, just like the dsa deck savers from the pro model days, why not make something sort of like that but it is more of a strip of chromoly or something, that you bolt on to the deck but this is just a thought

another thing that might be possible, have thicker sides, i might still be wrong but i am pretty sure the sides (walls) of the deck are what is mainly keeping the deck from caving or turning into a banana deck

lots of bmx riders dont use alu pegs because they grind through them very fast.

i wouldnt say thats "average" dk team frames weigh like exactly 4 lbs. and are really strong, stolen cherry frames are pretty light and are strong if ur not super sketchy, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rejRblCJBU&feature=plcp he rides a cherry and is crazy, hes also the guy that did the bartwist that was on vitalbmx (i see him ride all the time and he got better since that video, like trucks to footjams)

EDIT: the red frame is the cherry

most bmx frames are around that weight, and some are even slightly heavier.
what would you say is average?

depends, for park, usually like 4 lbs. 5 oz. at most, but for street, like cult frames you're right, i would just say its different on what terrain you ride

yeah, park frames seem to be getting lighter, but street frames are starting to actually get a little heavier.
so i guess we're both right haha

The potential problem I imagine a steel deck would have is the lack of flex. I like District and Addict decks most because unlike the Phoenix and TSI decks I have owned, they have more give and less rigid feel while still giving a confident ride. I feel a steel deck deck would be no better.

steel flexes before it cracks, aluminum cracks easier. in other words, steel flexes more than aluminum

^^Exactly...a steel deck would be able to flex much more than an aluminum deck without cracking/breaking.
I would love to see if it could be done, but Alex is right, a bicycle frame can be built so light because everything is triangulated....a scooter is not.
I really think it could be done...but its going to be heavier than an aluminum deck.
...maybe ill build one...
