i feel so bad man. the same thing happened in my town last year. i was pretty cool with the kid too. He was riding his bike across the street and got hit by one car which stopped after then another truck ran him over a few moments later and drove away. the truck is what killed him and they never found the driver. he was 13 years old :( R.I.P Alex and R.I.P Aaron

The american justice system is designed to protect the innocent, not prosecute the guilty.
The man could have seen him start to cross, then assumed he was going to stop halfway in the street to wait for cars to go by, so the man walked away. It's unfair to prosecute him for what could have been a lack of common sense in the victim.

Anyway, I'm sorry for your loss, I know it's the worst feeling to lose a friend so young.

People need to stop calling the dude a murderer.
All the people in the comments on the article are posting like the guy saw a kid in the road, figured he was fair game, and just aimed straight for him.
I'm sure it was an accident. There is no way the dude ran the kid over on purpose.

He definitely should have stopped though.

killed by a drunk driver 4 years ago. The guy took off and they never found him.
How do you know he was drunk if they never found him? Just wondering.

news update v2:
it is likely that he wont be charged due to the fact that Aaron wasn't in the crosswalk.

That doesn't make sense when he was put in jail on the charge of failure to stop for an accident that caused death. It doesn't matter how it happened, the kid died and he left and THAT is illegal.

The article said that he ran back to his house to get help...

Irrelevant. That's like trying to rob a store, leaving halfway through, and coming back. It doesn't justify anything.

"B. A driver who is involved in an accident resulting in death or serious physical injury as defined in section 13-105 and who fails to stop or to comply with the requirements of section 28-663 is guilty of a class 4 felony, except that if a driver caused the accident the driver is guilty of a class 3 felony." -Source

No matter how you look at it, he's guilty.

Ah, I was confused about the wording of the article and the characters involved. Yeah, he's a bad person for running into him, though it appears that it could have been an accident, or that he tried to stop for the kid. It made sense that he wasn't convicted, it also would make sense if he was convicted, though.
