The institute of art... as in The Art Institute of Chicago? I would seriously look at different college if I were you man. Credits you earn at art institute schools are only good at other AI school. So if you go there for a semester and don't like it and wanna transfer, you just wasted a semester because no one else will accept the credits. They are also fucking terrible with financial information. I was setup to go there (the one in Philly) and found out how shitty they are and dropped the school a week before classes started. They took the money from my loan a week early, and cause a big fucking mess, they were doing illegal shit with my money.
I went to community for 3 semesters for film/cinema. Transfered to Alvernia University for a semester for communications and it fucking sucked. Going back to community this semester.

Yea, the school in chicago is fine. I'm not taking Film, more graphic arts and maybe a few multi media classes. I drove up there two months ago and checked everything out, I talked to a bunch of the students and they said they all love it. Actually I almost didnt go when I first checked it out, we visited the school in detroit and it sucked balls.
Why was the school in philly so bad? (Other then the illegal loan withdraws)

Art Institute credits are only good at other AI schools. Other college don't accept them. Forget about transferring unless you are going to start over again from scratch. That was a total turnoff for me. At the time when i was going to go there, an associates degree was the only degree you could get for film, they added bachelors degree like 2 weeks after i would have started there. Those schools are just shady as fuck IMO. I recommend everyone goto community, get an associates, than decide what you want to do from there.
The CC I am at right now is so fucking sweet for film and I am paying less than my highschool tuition to go there.

AI's are pretty shady and way expensive.
it might be the better option in Chicago though.
but if your paying anything close to 40 i can recommend better schools that include room and board.
Private art colleges are better than community colleges though. but not by much for a lot of them.
also if you want to do design work you better get an internship b/c school IS NOT going to teach very much.

CC I am at right now is fucking awesome. They are super closely associated with Temple, which is great for arts, a lot of good film makers come out of there. Not sure if I am going to transfer to temple after I am done at CC yet though.
