Compression clamp or standard clamp?

Hi there, I am new here and was just wondering if a compression clamp is worth it over a normal clamp.

I don't even understand what the difference is because I am new so please be nice.

I will list my deck, forks, headset and bar so hopefully you can help me decide.

Also could you tell me if it is all compatible because I am buying this scooter soon.

Deck: District v2 Deck Red

Bars: Envy Smith Bars - Black 500mm

Headset: First MV Sealed Headset

Fork: MGP NEW Nitro Extreme forks - Black

My first question is...

1) Will this all fit together nicely and work?

And...

2) What clamp should I get?

These are my options for clamps:

Proto Half Knuckle Clamps

Sacrifice Quad Clamp - Red

Proto Baby SCS Red

Proto SCS - Red

So which clamp is better and will it all work with the better clamp?

THANKS SO MUCH!

Welcome to the site! :)

Standard clamps are meant for threaded forks and the nitro extreme forks that you want to get are threadless therefore you will need some form of compression.

You can't use HIC compression with the Envy Smith bars, if you want to use HIC you will need oversized bars.

Your best bet would be to get an SCS, either a Proto or an Apex, they're probably the two best SCS clamps out there. Hope this helped :)

Thanks for the reply.

So what makes compressed clamps so much better? I am still confused at what I need to get and what I need to change. I basically want to keep the deck, headset, forks and bars but are you saying it won't all work?

What do I need to change for it to work and what clamp should I get? I really like the Sacrifice quad clamp the most. Is it good and will it work with my bars, headset, forks and deck?

Thanks for helping!

You have two options.
1. Buy a standard clamp (half knuckle) and use ICS.
2. Buy a compression clamp and use SCS.

If you have the money, the compression clamp is going to be better. Are you having a shop put you're scooter together for you? Because if no you will have to install a starnut into your forks to use the SCS.

Also, compression clamps aren't "better" but they will probably make you're scooter stay tight and just feel better. Definately a better choice if you can spare a bit more money.

As I said, you can't use normal clamps with those forks. You will need to either get an oversized clamp and use HIC (Then you can't use the Envy Smith bars, you will need oversized bars for HIC), or you can use SCS (Proto, Apex).

This is how SCS works -

Your best bet would to just buy the Proto Baby SCS. Then everything will work perfectly, you just have to have your bars cut.

Because the nitro extreme forks are longer than normal forks, won't he have to cut the forks or use heaps of spacers?

Thanks for the replies guys, that helped clear it up a bit.

So can I just add one of these clamps for it to work?

Also which clamp would you pick (I like the look of the Proto Baby SCS better)?

So if I pick one of these clamps it will all fit together nicely?

Also would you recommend a 550mm Envy Smith bar or 500mm Envy Smith bar since it needs to be cut for a SCS to work? I am a pretty small rider (160cm).

Thank you so much!
