This should clear things up...
It has come to my attention that there is a rumor going around that Skatebarn is closing down. I want to set this rumor to rest. I am the General Manager and one of the owners. It is true that our business is not making money, but we (my partner and I) are committed to keeping Skatebarn open for many years to come. Our lease on this building is up in May 2009, and we are trying to plan ahead so we don't have to close when our lease is up next year. Currently we are working with King County Parks department to try to come up with a partnership so that the park will remain open after our lease expires next year. If this happens, we will renew our lease for several more years.
Please understand that the rumor that is going around really hurts our business. Yes we are losing money every month, but my partner and I are paying for this park to stay open out of our own pockets so that all of you can come here and skate and enjoy this amazing place. Every dollar that you spend here goes straight to our operating costs. We do not make any profit.....nor have we ever made a profit. In fact, we have lost a lot of money since the business opened. Some of you have been complaining about our shortened sessions. Again, we had to do this to try to lessen our monthly losses so that we can stay open longer.
If you care about Skatebarn, the best thing that you all can do is to tell everyone you know that we are not closing and to tell them all to come down and skate. It is you guys who will keep this place going in the end. If you don't come and support us, we will have to close someday.
Thank you for reading this and I hope to see you soon! Don't forget to sign up for summer camps...they are filling up fast. We do have scholarships for kids who need it so don't be afraid to ask.
Take care, Jill Hansen General Manager/Owner
