D-SLR for Dad's Birthday.

So basically my dad wants a D-SLR for his birthday cause he wants to get back into photography (He stopped for a long time). He is looking at the Nikon's, but I'm sure he would be happy with a Canon too. I was thinking of a price range under $400, maybe $500. What do you guys suggest? I know the price range is kind of limiting, but I want to see your guy's opinions.

you really cant get a dslr for 400, and 500s going to be tough to find. the cheapest around is probably a pentax k100d. from what ive read theyre pretty good for the price. personally, ive got a nikon d40 and i love it, definitely worth 600. but dont forget, once you get it youre still going to need a bigger memory card and a camera bag too if you dont already have it, so theres still some more money involved once you get the camera itself.

Yea, I was looking at the D-40. I already have a 2gb SD that I can give him. And since he used to be into photgraphy he already has bags and stuff.

why do you think its a scam conor? i mean its low but there are a bunch of other places selling them pretty cheap. im not saying you have to buy there or anything and im not an expert in online purchases or anything.but if you dont want to buy there,

FOr around 600-650 you can get the canon digital rebel xt...

and theres cheaper models than the rebel xt, like the rebel is somewhere around 600 on amazon...
