Really, so much respect for you.
Dan Warwick Wrote...
I know some of you like it when I post blogs about how I feel on subjects and share my beliefs, so I figure I'll go ahead and do it on most of the major issues. I'm really only doing this because it's really wet out and I'm bored. So let's go.
I went to glassbooth.org which is a website to help match your beliefs with your candidate for the 2008 election and just took most of the topics from there, but I'll cover some not on there.
Alright, here we go. You really don't have to read this by the way haha. And I'm being VERY brief on all the topics, but whatever.
First topic, drug policy and legalization of drugs.
I completely agree with decriminalizing marijuana, the fact that there are people in jail longer than rapists on charges of possession is completely insane. So far this year, meaning in the last week, one billion dollars has been spent on the drug war. ONE BILLION DOLLARS! Do you have any idea what that money could be spent on? Physically, marijuana is no more harmful to you than cigarettes or alcohol, so why the hell is so much money spent on the war on drugs? We need to decriminalize marijuana, now. Putting people behind bars isn't doing anything but raising taxes, when really they don't need to be there. Leave jails for who they really should be for, and that does not include people caught with hemp or other drugs. Every day peoples lives are ruined because of getting thrown in jail, because once you're out, have fun getting a job. Decriminalize now.
Second topic, the patriot act and homeland security.
Just for those of you who don't know, the patriot act was pretty much designed to take away your liberties and freedom. You can be legally tortured, have your house legally searched (without a warrant, that is), all under the implication that you are a "terrorist". The patriot act and homeland security is asinine bullshit that disregards the constitution completely, a true embarrassment to our country.
Third Topic, Death Penalty.
I disagree with the death penalty, not much I can say about it. Like I said before, prisons are not for users and addicts, but for those who have committed unspeakable acts of violence. If someone commits something so horrible that they would be sentenced to death these days, I personally think you should leave them in prison for life, with no chance of parole. Let the person suffer in prison; don't give them the quick way out. Cruel? I don't think so. Not as cruel as some of the shit people do now-a-days.
Fourth Topic, Iraq.
(I'm copy pasting this from my old blog, I don't feel like re-typing it.)
I don't understand how the hell this war is still going on, a war based on lies and corruption, that has torn this country apart.
First off, in case you didn't know, by the end of this war, it is estimated it will cost us 2.4 trillion dollars, just try to comprehend that number real quick, and just to give you a clue of how much good could be done with this money, here's a few things that could be bought with it:
a. just 41 days of fighting in Iraq, could fund the SCHIP program for a year, giving healthcare to nearly 10 million kids. What's better Mr. Bush, life or death? Obviously, death to you, since you vetoed the bill to give those 10 million kids healthcare, and you are still asking for billions and billions more to fund your little war.
b. it could feed AND educate the worlds poor for nearly 28 years, putting a real fight against poverty.
c. it could have paid for 4 years of healthcare for everyone, not to mention an excellent universal healthcare system.
d. nearly 72 months of free gas for EVERYONE, not to mention many eco-friendly cars.
e. over 60 million free rides at Harvard, and over 200 million free rides at A&M or any other state university.
Obviously, this money could be used to improve our country and world so much, yet its spent on a war based on lies and crap, what lies you ask?
1. Bush said Al Qaeda and Saddam had links, which is complete crap, in fact, saddam has publicly spoken out against al qaeda, bashing al qaeda and calling them religious nuts, hm, great allies huh?
2. Bush also said Iraq had Weapons of Mass destruction to use against us, once again, this assertion is false. The CIA actually sent a man, joe wilson, to iraq to see if there were in fact any WMD's, he returned saying that claim was false, and they had nothing. The bush administration did not listen, and continued to claim they had WMD's, and by using the words "terrorist, and evildoer" and many others, and saying this over and over again, the public was led into backing this war, when in fact, there was no credible reason to ever invade iraq.
The main point is, Saddam and Iraq was NO THREAT AT ALL to the U.S., and this war, which has set us back 2.4 trillion dollars, has caused 4,000 dead americans, one hundred thousand wounded americans, 655 thousand dead iraqis, and over a million wounded iraqis, is absolutely pointless. All of these people have died for nothing, and it is a damn shame. The biggest criminal in our country is President Bush, just for all of the death he has caused. The only reason we invaded Iraq was for the oil, international war laws have been violated, and lies have been told to the American people. This right here is the main reason Bush and Cheney should be tried for war crimes.
Fifth Topic, Environment.
Global Warming is real, and all you skeptics are retarded. I always here people claim that top scientists are debunking global warming, but that's not true at all. I can think of one guy who has spoken out against global warming and is slightly credible, but not nearly as credible as the thousands of other scientists warning us about it. We have to do something about it, and driving your F-350 trucks is not what needs to be done. We need to take care of our environment, invest more money in alternative energy sources, and raise the minimum mpg standards. India developed a car that runs on compressed air, and what are we doing? Nothing, that's exactly the problem, Corporations run this country and every time there is a breakthrough in an electric car or something of that sort, big companies like GM come around to kill it. "Who killed the electric car", go check it out at your local blockbuster. The Kyoto protocol needs to be reinforced as well.
Sixth Topic, Gun Control.
There has to be a limit on guns, and background checks must be reinstated. You can't have nut jobs running around our country with assault weapons, that's insane. Anyone mentally unstable should not own a gun. Do you give a gun to a baby? Hell no, that's just asking for catastrophe.
Seventh Topic, Illegal Immigration.
Ugh, I really don't care about this topic. I hate how all the republicans talk about is immigration like it's the biggest threat to our country. I oppose building a fence, too much money and won't do anything. I support a path to citizenship for those already here as well. I also think if you go after anyone, it shouldn't be the people, but the employers. Show some sympathy.
Eighth Topic, Health Care.
WE NEED UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE! Insurance companies are supposed to provide you with care, when really all they do is try to find ways around giving you that care. 47 million people are uninsured, and there is no reason to not have universal healthcare. Doctors are happier, patients are happier, everything is better. No big corporations or insurance companies to deal with, it's perfect. I don't feel like getting too much into this, because I could go for awhile. All I can say is I'm strongly in favor of a not for profit single payer universal healthcare system.
Ninth Topic, Taxes.
We have a 10 TRILLION dollar deficit in this country. And a few things need to be done about it. You have to raise taxes for the wealthy, you just have to. A flat tax system is just dumb, people like warren buffet pay like .01% of their income for taxes, when middle class families pay up to 40-50-60% for theirs. Middle class families deserve tax cuts, just a little one. And wealthy citizens need a substantial tax hike, simple as that. There has never been such a gap between the upper class and middle class, never, and those who have been rewarded by our system must give back more. We must also cut federal spending, and use it on other things that will help our country.
Tenth Topic, Education.
No child left behind is a joke, and standardized tests are a joke. Give teachers raises and let them teach how they want.
Eleventh Topic, Gay Marriage and Abortion.
(First part copied from other blog.)
This is just mind blowing, that people can be against this. There is absolutely no reason gays shouldn't be able to get married. Are they going to hurt you? Absolutely Not. And the argument i always hear is that god said it was bad, and in the bible it states gay marriage is bad. I'm sorry, but when I think of a god, I don't think of a god that would disapprove of gay marriage, everyone is equal, and you cannot tell a person who to love or what to do. While I don't believe that god interacts with the world, I still do not think of a god who created the universe without an open mind. And, half of the people who speak out publicly against gay marriage, end up being homosexual themselves, that's freaking great, haha. I am also pro-choice on abortion. Let the woman choose, government should not get involved, leave it at that.
Twelfth Topic, IMPEACHMENT!
I swear you have to molest a child or something to get impeached now-a-days. Just a look at what bush has done:
- see my iraq war topic.
- illegal wire taps.
- completely disregarding the constitution
- lying out of his ass, being completely dishonest.
Cheney is more of the same, and the fact that cheney became a billionaire through his stock in Halliburton after the Iraq war should just be enough to impeach him.
These men must be impeached, tried for war crimes, and put in jail for life.
And last but not least, religion.
Religion is the main cause of war many times and often separates friends and families.
It's the extremists who piss me off, the people who claim they are right and if you don't repent now then you're going to hell! Holy shit, I'm so scared, not.
My views on religion:
- god does not intervene with life on earth, therefore I do not pray.
- jesus was not the son of god.
- I believe in evolution, not intelligent design.
- I don't believe in miracles, because that falls into divine intervention.
- I believe the only way you can see god is through nature. NOT through any book or person, such as the bible. The fact that people VOTED what stories to be considered the WORD OF GOD is asinine, and you have to take into account word connotation and how many times its been translated, plus how it wasn't written until hundreds of years after "jesus lived".
Christianity makes no sense to me.
Have any questions? Go ahead and ask, I was VERY VERY brief on everything, so leave me a comment and ask whatever. I didn't proof read this either, so it probably doesn't make sense grammatically in parts. If it sounds like a I contradicted myself or anything, let me know, it was probably a grammar error. Give me some feedback, and if you read it all, thanks.
thanks so much man, really means alot.Dre said:I agree with every fucking thing you said there 99%, meaning I'm kinda indecisive about the gay marriage thing, because I do believe that homosexuals SHOULD have the right to get married with each other, but I think that sometimes when they adopt a child it can be problematic to the child, who is brought up a) without a mother figure, and b) I think it's kinda questionable that a kid is brought up under those conditions because of the influence it might have on him. So I don't really know...
And the global warming thing, I agree that we should try and help clean up our shit and reduce emissions and all that because the pollution and shit is making a difference, a very small one at that, but still a difference. Most of the "global warming" that we hear about today in my opinion is kind of over-exaggerated, and it's part of a cycle that our earth goes through every now and then (ice-age/warm-age I guess?) due to the proximity between us and the sun or something, don't know exactly how it works, but we should still be working to clean up our shit after ourselves more.
But man, you are definitely one of the smartest kids of your age I've ever witnessed (based on your online-opinions) and I haven't even met you for real, so big ups to you for that, you're gonna go far in life.
