Decent Video Camera?

I got myself banned.
VX1000 is ancient... its gonna be 11 years old soon, i wouldn't waste money on it. They're considered like throw away cams in my eyes now. Get a 2100 or 2000. 2000s are cheaper, but they don't have a zoom or record button on the handle, thats really the only down side to them.

Oh and if you can wait like a year, i'm pretty positive the prices are going to drop more on them (if they aren't discontinued by than, HD is supposed to be standard by 2009)

panasonic GS 180 was very good because it was 3CCD and kind of cheap. Anyways the new models are GS 230 and 320.
230 is more simple and has a worse photo shooting quality which you really don't care about using a camcorder. Then you could think 320 is just better. But in fact the screen is not larger if you film 4:3, except if you film 16:9 it's not useful! 320 has a great zoom though (25x instead of 10x i think, we used it last time on some weird spot and it was really usefull). I got my camera robbed so i looked to buy a more recent than the GS180 and i think 230 is good enough!

The HD problem is that cheapest ones write on some hard disk or flash. Mini Dv is the best to my opinion because you can bring a lot of tapes and don't bother a lot, capturing is pretty boring though.

Does anyone know how much is a GS230 in the US beacause in France camcorders are quite expensive!
