there are 2 nuts the one with the cover attatched to in and just a nut just use "the nut" with the thredless top cup from the threadless headset

Just use the whole headset, "the nut" as Snow says and then make sure you tighten your clamp down tight and hard onto the nut otherwise it will come loose. It sometimes helps to put some thread tape on the fork first or lock tight afterwards!
