Does the Helmeri fork work with ICS without the IHIC top cap ?

I just received a District Helmeri fork and there was no IHIC top cap with it, but do I really need it if I use ICS? The instructions say so but it still seems kind of weird. I tried mailing the shop but they haven't responded yet and I reaaally want to ride. Any help is really appreciated.

If you're missing the iHIC adapter that goes on the iHIC forktube, then you cannot mount your standard-sized bars on it because there would be a gap between the fork and the bars when there's no adapter. If that's what's missing, then send the fork back to the shop and demand a new one with the adapter included, otherwise the fork is unusable.

The fork or what ever spare part you're planning to mount your standard-sized/ICS-compatible handlebars, must have an 1 1/8" outer diameter, so that it would match with the handlebar's 1 1/8" inner diameter of the steertube.

Thanks for the help! But damn that sucks, they're not responding to my email and shipping the fork back and forth would take a while. Would it be possible to find some kind of pipe at a hardware store that could do the job? Or is the top cap maybe too specific to be able to find something like it?

You are totally fine. if you have the big silver thing you can still run ICS, its set up that way. Just put the silver shim over your fork and it will all be fine. You can't use SCS though, and I'm not sure about HIC but I don't see why HIC wouldn't work.

Nah guys, i think you're mistaking something.
The Helmeri fork has the topcap built-in into the shim/adapter.

If he's missing that, there's no way he can put standard sized bars on an iHIC fork, it would be like putting an oversized HIC handlebar on top of your standard 1 1/8" forktube without an HIC adapter, haha.

How long have you tried to contact the shop? Because you know, it's the weekend, they might not respond until Monday/Tuesday, haha.

A pipe from the hardware store... might work. Depending on what's the OD of the forktube, because I have no idea what's the outer diameter of these when it comes to iHIC forks. But it has to be really snug and fit, otherwise you might end up destroying your handlebars and clamps, yet alone the compression itself. It might be really tricky to find any tubing that has american measurements like 1 1/8" OD... tubes in europe usually dont come in 28.575mm OD's, they either are have like 25mm, 28mm, 30mm OD, haha, full numbers basicly. Do you have a caliper/calliper(sp?) around your house? If yes, use that to measure the OD of the forktube.

Haha that's true but they replied and said that there wasn't supposed to be any top cap with the forks but they might be mistaking it like some people seem to do haha. And thanks man that helps a lot, I might have to look into it if they don't want to send that piece over.
By the way, isn't this a bit weird? The compression ring that came with the forks is a bit different in size than the one that came with the headset so that it can fit the fork but that causes the top cap of the headset to be kind of far away from the rest. This might seem stupid but I've just never had a headset like this.. It says in this vid that it's really important to use the headset ring that came with the forks.

If they didn't send you a shim, and they don't event think the fork needs one, you should file a claim with paypal and never order from them again because that is ridiculous is a 1 inch fork.

I don't want to judge them too quickly though, maybe they're misunderstanding what part is missing and it was probably not their fault anyways since the shim/top cap thing is supposed to come screwed onto the fork. Thanks for the advice though lol

He's from Iceland, he might have bought it from a local store.

Sounds like you got a fork from a shop where there are no riders behind the counter. If you still have the receipt and if you haven't passed that 14-days of return deadline, then return it and get a normal fork. Helmeri himself is riding a TSI Pilot fork anyway atm ever since it turned out that aluminium forks in general aren't strong enough for his abuse, haha. I mean it's chill, I saw him use his own sig-fork for a whole year until it snapped. I think he's waiting for District to design a steel fork. [/scootgossip]

Nah there aren't any shops here that sell scooter related stuff :/
And shipping it back to them would cost almost as much as the fork (says my dad atleast), so I think I'm kind of stuck with this.. but lets say they ship that shim over, would it be okay to ride with that headset like that?
