Editing Question

When editing a video, how do you make it so that a clip half fades into another clip, stays 50 50 for a while, and then fades back into the first clip, I've been confused on how to manage that. Is there a special term for this or something?

The clip you want to '50-50' simply goes in the slot above the first video (at 50% transparency) with crossfades on both ends

Combining two clips like that might result in an overall darker result (especially if you're merge'ing more than two clips like that), so my two cents would be that you should try testing with brightness/contrast functions: while the clip on top has the 50% transparency, bump up the brightness & contrast on the clip below. Play with it a little until the overall lighting/brightness looks more-or-less the same with the clips before and after the edited part.
