As far as I can tell it doesnt. That would put a brace against any pressure coming UP. Theres no point in having that gusset. Its just more material, more welding, more work, etc. Im expecting these to be typically expensive.

To me, it seems like it would work more for distribution than reinforcement. But Im not saying Im right haha. Im not trying to argue or bitch about it, I just dont really see the need for it.
But I honestly would like to hear how it would help. Maybe learn something new.

I think you're right. Remembering a pair of ZG drop V bars where the one side would be broken off but the other would be fine.

With this gusset i think it would help somewhat...
