The reason so many companies from the UK and Australia have OEM companies copying popular designs is that the prices on their legit US counterparts is crazy inflated due to shipping/customs for relatively small shipments from the US. Go on any Aussie website and look at the prices for any US parts, they're way more expensive. Because of that, and a lack of copyright protection on the designs outside of the US, there are a lot of cheaper OEM alternatives to parts made here in the US.

OEM is a GOOD label.

If you were to look at your scooter like a Motorcycle and needed a new fork:
The Repair shop can offer you OEM or an aftermarket part/fork. There are lots of parts for vehicles that work just as good ( some not so good) as OEM and cost less- and it is legal.
The SMX in the Link are just your basic knock offs
The chinese will make anything you want without any regard to Patents.
