I got myself banned.
Its photography you should be ready to spend some money for a good setup... but if your gonna cheapskate it look at the Peleng 8mm fisheye, i think there like $300 but your probably gonna have to ebay it. I'd save up for the Tokina if i were you though.
Yeah I've come to realize photography isn't cheap, but it's deffinitly worth it in my opinion. I have 550$ right now and i was planning on getting the D40x with that and saving the rest of my money up for a lense. I know how to work camera's I just don't know Whats a good deal for a lense and whats not.
Well the D40 was designed for starter's and i've NEVER had a nice camera. I know enough to get the D40 since i had dibb's camera all to myself when he came to vermont and i loved it. i don't have much money to work with and 10.2 megapixels is just fine for me. I just want a decently priced yet good qulaity SLR such as a D40x. I have 550$ to work with right now and I'll be getting the lens for christmas. The D40x+the Tokina fisheye or another fisheye are all I'll need for a while.

Well, the D40's are 'gay' becuase:
-it's got like a three point AF points, manual not so good either.
-Very limited lens choice.
-The flash sync isn't that great.
just cut out some shit that you want in a good SLR i reckon.
Just saying,
i wouldn't go out and buy one...

Well good reasons james, One thing is, say i do buy dibb's D50, in the future since it's not being made anymore won't it lack what new lenses need or what new features some products might need? does anyone understand what I'm trying to say? haha. im tired of everyone being so fucking pretentious and saying how terrible d40's are just because they're an entry level camera and alot of people have one. do you see anyone saying the beatles or pink floyd suck because alot of people listen to them?

Always check resellerratings.com... and heres the reviews for that site (well actually like 5 sites ran by the same company) http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Broadway_Photo, its a scam, they pull some crap and say it doesn't come with a battery and blah blah than you say you dont want it and they tell you the cams on back order and its gonna take a few months.... yeahZak Ploof said:

the d40/d40x will only auto focus with AF-S and AF-I lenses. They need to have the motor in the lens because it does not have one in the body.
And just because its not made anymore doesn't mean its not going to be able to use new lenses and what not. They don't make the D2Hs anymore and a lot of people still use it just because it has 8fps up to 50 frames jpeg.
If you want the camera get it, doesn't matter what anyone else says. Its going to be your camera, not theirs.

How are Sony a 100( alpha 100)? My dad goes like eww , sonys but I think it might be good for me ( new to photography ) because it dosen't have too many buttons and it looks pretty cool.
