Flanges

Can anyone tell me why are there flanges at the end of most bmx grips? I even asked my friend who runs a bmx shop and he didn't know.

noo, so you don't hit your finger or rub it on the brake lever i think? there is a reason for them though

yeah, i should took pictures of my finger after i cut it on a brake lever cos my friend newbishly cut the flanges off, it was nasty!
they also stop your hands sliding in.

i think it just has to do with hitting you hands on your bars. maybe to keep your hands from slipping to the inside?

if your doing a gnar 1 hander and you put t to the inside too much and land all sketchy then it will slip. Ive done it trying tobaggons. but the seat was super low so i went to grab, got air in my hand, screamed "michael jackson", put my hand on the grip too far to the inside, and landed with my hand slipping off the bar and my tumbling into some mud.

it seems like the would help for cleaner looking landings. like it can guide your hand so every time you land your not grabbing like the inside part of the bars.

idk if u understand what im saying, but that is what it seems like it could do.

No clue what they are for, but I hate the way the look on most bars
no it just looks bad on really narrow bars like stocks
you're crazy, its the wide bars that they look bad on. I mean, it looks so out of place when theres a flange sticking out in the middle of the bars (part that you hold). i think they look good on stock bars.
