Hard drive cameras

I want to know your opinion about them cause I'm considering buying one. Theyre cool as you have plenty of space, you dont spend money for tapes, dvds etc and there should be no problem with capturing the video for editing it on a computer. So what do you think?

I got myself banned.
I wouldnt waste my money on it. Find out how the quality is, how big of a drive your getting and check how the colors are. 2 minutes of mini dv footage is like 500 mb, i think that would suck if the file sizes run the same as mini dv footage, unless if you can delete stuff as your filming. Tapes have a plus side to them, if you use them correctly by not filming over footage, and you comptuer crashes, you have it all on tapes still.

The drive size is 20gb, and the specification says that its enough for 7 hours of dvd camera quality video and 4,5 hours of dvd movie quality, the footage is compressed with MPEG-2.

Edit: Lol just checked and it seems like the colors of cam similar to the one i'm thinking about are like one of the worst in history, check this out:

umm, its like 2500 PLN=650 dollars? dunno if the prices in US and here are comparible. Well those JVC HD cameras were sorta like a false start as a hard drive camera seems to be a good idea but we'll have to wait some time till they make some good quality ones.

So now I think i'd rather get a mini dv, possibly not as expensive as that HD cam. Any recommendations? Im a noob when it comes to cameras as I've never really thought of having one seriously.

Edit: lol, nvm, I just realised that buying a camera would be kinda pointless right now when I've just recently found a guy that can tape stuff for me. So I think I'll rather buy some sort of electric organ thing like the one you were destroying in TPC Video Journal 4, haha.
