so my friens rup broke where the neck meets the deck, and we can't figure out how to get the headset out. any ideas?

Loosen the clamp, take off the bars, unscrew the locknut, unscrew the headset deal, take out the ball bearings and bearing cage, pull the fork out the bottom of the headtube, take the ball bearings off of the fork.
If you're planning on putting the whole headset on another deck and fork, then bang off the crown race (thing on the fork at the bottom of the downtube that will probably have grease on it), and take a flathead screwdriver and a hammer to bang out the bearing cups (round things sticking out of the head tube). Store all of it in a plastic bag or something so that it doesn't get all dirty.

wow i sounded like a total n00b right there. i know how to take out a headset, what i meant was how can i get the headset cups out, because i just have the headtube and neck and i cant figure out how to clamp it enough to support the headtube when i hammer it

Clamp down on a vice as hard as you can, then find the biggest hammer you can and hit it way harder than you think you need to. That's probably the only way cause that's what I've always had to do.
