Helmets while riding street?

This may have been made already but I have to ask. What's your opinion on this? I hate wearing a helmet while riding street. I used to do so because my mom forced me to but i stopped a couple months ago because I was sick of it. Thoughts? Comments? Research studies? Idk I just want to get some input on this.

Its a REALLY good idea to wear a helmet in case you do hit your head, but no one really wears helmets when riding street. I used to wear one when I was beginning and scared of like 4/5 stairs, but I don't anymore.

I find helmets very uncomfortable and when i wear one i find my riding is worse. So in my case wearing a helmet just provokes more bails :/

I did some research. Apparently there are situations in which wearing a helmet can hurt you more. It can make your head hit the ground first before your back or chest, making your head absorb the impact instead. Also, a helmet can cause diffuse axonal injury to be worse during a crash. Plus, helmets can cut your chin open (it happened to me once so I know). Someone can as well be hung from a helmet. Helmets also make you more likely to try riskier things, which can lead to damage of other body parts that are unprotected as well as the head. I'm not saying that it's better to not wear one, but in truth it just seems kinda dorky looking anyway. :p

That's like those people who say that driving without a seatbelt is safer because in a crash, they'll be able to escape their car if it's burning. Sure there may be some scenarios where not wearing one is safer, but for the majority of situations, it's best to wear a helmet.

da fuq how?

MRI's are pretty expensive, plus the time the nurses spent taking care of me and since i wasn't wearing a helmet insurance wouldn't cover it and my rates went up. so even over a year after it happened im still paying for it

Wear a helmet when you feel the need to, not based on what you are riding. I throw my helnet on when I don't feel safe.
