i've got an old video camera, its a dvL185, and the manual says that you can only put still images on the computer, but i think thats only w/ usb, so with firewire do u think i could put video on the comp?

Yeah if its got a firewire port than you can capture video on the computer with firewire.

how do u transfer it from the camera to the computer?

 

[Brian Boston]

Hook the camera up to the computer with the firewire, open up some movie editing program (movie maker, premiere ect...), pick capture, capture the footage.
