can somebody please explain exactly how it works? i check lucky's website and it talks about the oversized 1 3/8 bars and the shim you use over the forks. but is that it? do you use any starnuts or bolts?

please don't even bother with HIC its the worst possible compression out there, stick with the good ol' ICS

Oh god...All I know is that you have to take out ur wheel do do anything, and i think the starnut goes into your fork kinda like SCS, I'm not entirely sure...

Funny how you say don't get it and that it's the worst compression ever, when you have no idea how it works and have obviously never used it. You are wrong, you don't need to take your wheel off, that is how your beloved ICS works. You take the bars off for HIC, just like SCS.

Here is how it works;
Fork w/ starnut goes through headtube
Shim goes over top of forktube (The shim is taller than the forktube when it is in place)
Cap goes on top of shim and bolt goes through cap into starnut(You tighten the bolt to create compression)
Bars go over shim
Tighten your clamp and you are golden.

By the way, when used properly it's just as good as SCS or ICS, and much easier than ICS.

thanks so much dude. just ordered some lucky 3 piece HIC bars. some kid at my local had them and they seemed solid.

It's a cheap, and in my opinion, slightly less "dialed" SCS. But it's an awesome, "poor man's" SCS. I still say the knuckles prevail, everything all in one, super simple.

Noones made a dialed HIC yet. They on da way tho :)

SCS is the best design out there

If you look at a decent bike it will use a threadless headset. There are almost NO threaded headset on the market anymore, unless it is a $50 POS from a department store.

The SCS is basically a stem like on a bike except a scooters bars are Vertical instead of Horizontal.

A bikes stem (and the SCS) clamps the outside of the steer tube and the outside of the bars. This is way safer than having the bars slide OVER the outside of something and then trying to clamp it from the outside. With Handlebars, SAFETY is key.

SCS = Safety and durability

HIC = FAIL

not a fail if you tighten the shit out of it. the shim has a slit too, so it clamps securely on the fork. if you're worried about the possibility of your bars sliding out, you should realize that there probably would be enough friction to keep that from happening.

The aluminum shim replaces a brass knucle, it weighs .8 OZ not 8 OZ it fits on the inside (telescoping ) it grips to the bars and forks because its aluminum 6061, by using a odinary bmx cap and bolt that comes with your head set.

any one knows the best way to conect two tubes is to sleev it
not but them end to end.

I've been riding HIC since I came up with the concept back in december. I showed it off at SD3 to everyone but noone seemed to get it. After that, Cory M. Made that the system standard for his bars. He came up with the same Idea as I however I made the first functional Prototype in december.

NOW, HIC is not a fail because of how it "telescopes". This system is the best because what it does is it transfers the Torque from the Handle Pole to the Compression Shim then to the fork. Now this sytem is the best because it does not bend your Bars nor your forks. This is because of the transfer of energy through the Shim.

I see how Andrews SCS system works. It's very much simaler to a BMX threadless Stem compression system. One peice bars to a central stem or in our case a Clamp.

I don't like SCS because of the weight and the look. Don't get me wrong its a great system but I would rather have something more simple and light.
 
How about they both work it's all preference? The added weight to my front end make whips feel so much better and the back end whips around a lot quicker. I like a little bit heavier front end (not heavy, I think my scooter is sub 9 pounds), but not really light. Chromoly bars, brass knuckles, and chromoly forks. It balances out my scooter exactly how I like it. I would've given the HIC a chance, but the brass knuckles just works perfectly.

They both work fine, no need to figure out which one is best, cause they both have their ups and downs.

I don't like HIC very much, at least I haven't on Jon's scooter. It's always been a bitch to take the bars off and put them on, and it gets loose really fast. I don't think it's user error because I tighten down his clamps as much as possible, but he does have a pretty shitty headset. We'll see if anything changes when he gets a better one. I think it's a good idea, it just has to be made perfectly to work.

Kc u talkin bout the tapered shim I showed a drawing to thomcat when u guys was here? And get fatter aluminum tube and turn it down so theres like a 1/4" spacer connected to the bottom so the shim cant get lost in the bars. this alsos makes it possible to hold tighter tolerances with the shim making the clamping system work better. At least those are a couple ideas for improvement. (tapered bein for alum bars nahmeeen keepo that steertube thick on top ;)


And pheonix one where the hell is a threaded headset cost $5o?.. thats redic. If ur threaded just get a $15 basic steel tioga....

they both provide compression, they both work. But could see scs possibly become less popular one day as everything becomes more sleek and less parts and all that. Just look how "integrated" bikes are getting. Frames have built in pivotal posts even. About a 1/4 of all new bike frames dont even use a seatpost!

SCS is like bmx technology from the 90s imo. No offense it just reminds me of a giant ol redneck. but hey shite evolves. Baby scs is already a step foward. hic is just already there!
