I was hoping someone with great knowledge on scooters could possibly help/guide me to fix a few problems..
I just bought a 1985 Honda Elite Deluxe 150 for a great price. Its in pretty great condition no rust and cosmetically good. It has a little over 9000 miles. I took it home after a 6 hour drive. the tank was almost empty when I got it. That concerned me but when i looked there was no rust. I had it sit out in the cold for a few days before i topped it off with premium and added 1 ounce of sta bil before i pored the gas in. ran it for like ten mins. The next day i changed the spark plug (the old one was filthy) then changed the oil... now keep in mind this guy who owned it kept a log on his oil changed in the priginal manual included and he used 15-50 oil.... which to me was not right at all... I always read i you should always use 10-40 on it. so i drained the oil and added 10-40. Ran it for 10 mins.. The battery was stock from like 30 years ago and finally gave out so I bought a new one and it is great.
I took this scooter out for a few days and notced a few problems.. It drives and all. idles no prob.. I noticed when i stop then start again it makes a high pitch sound for 5 seconds about then stops... could this be the drive belt? maybe needs to be greased or replaced? The most important problem I have is im getting 31 per gallon instead of 65 to 80 like it should... i set the trip to 0 from a full tank rode half the day, then to work the next and after 31 miles I am litterally right above the half tank point... Is this due to me driving with sta bil in the tank? also the air filter is dirty so i ordered a new UNI filter which comes today. I heard a clean fresh air filter can increase mpg?
Last problem.. my turn signal. So on my switch when i press it to turn right it works every time.. when i press it left it does not respond maybe 8 out of 10 times... but does respond and work when it wants to... I dont belive it is a wireing problem maybe a flasher relay? I hope i dont need an entire new turn switch unit. Any ideas guys? I would greatly appreciate it.
