a little bit of onfo about it from the internet..
As Houstonians come to grips with the fact that their hometown has once again been labeled the \"fattest city in America,\" a grass-roots group is hoping to use that designation to create awareness for the need to promote non-traditional sports in the city, specifically, a skate park.
Public Use Skateparks for Houston, or PUSH, was created late last year to bring a state-of-the-art skateboarding facility to the city.
So far, the group has found a willing partner in the city\'s Parks and Recreation Department, which has allocated about 40,000 square feet of land at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Sabine Street for what could soon become the Central Houston Skate Park.
For the members of PUSH, the recent designation of Houston as the nation\'s least fit city by Men\'s Fitness magazine, along with a groundswell of support within Houston\'s skating community for a public facility, make the skate park a necessity.
\"There\'s interest among kids and older people to bring a skate park to Houston,\" said Jason Espeseth, founder of PUSH. \"We started about three months ago to bring one voice to a usually disorganized group. When you\'re talking about people who live in all areas of the city, it\'s hard for them to get together, but there\'s definitely a voice among all the (skateboard) riders in Houston.\"
