how does setpot compresion work

im broke and it sounds cheap and it just happens im getting a threadles fork so can someone please explain

this clamp goes on your forks and a normal clamp would be too big to do the job to you use a seatpost clamp because it's small and fits on your fork
 
So it's like a locknut for threadless forks, right?

hell know when i got an sr fork i did not have comp..... twan told me to use seat post clam and well it did not work so well!!!

sounds like a shity compresion.....wait it doesn't sound like it would compress anything...a clamp on your fork as a compresion thats a FAIL!
