How to use a fisheye!!

ive seen way to many videos on here with improperly used fisheyes, it discusting.

learn to use it:
1)CLEAN IT!!! dirty lenses destroy quality
2)turn off O.I.S. it looks like your fisheyes wiggling if you keep it on
3)DONT ZOOM IN!! get close and low, dont film like a soccer dad! if you zoom in your camera cant focus and you loose qualty and it looks blurry.
4)if your going to use a fisheye, use a legit fisheye, not a wide angle.

so many videos would be a ton better if people knew how to film here. hope this helps to get cleaner videos.

post and ill update it with more tips.

Most definitely clean your lens. Whether you use a lens or not. Even a couple specs of dust will become glares in footage when you point it in direction of light or the sun. Which can distort the shot you're trying to shoot. Same goes for lenses too, obviously. Buy a $25 lens cleaning kit off Amazon. Just be sure to get a kit with a microfiber lens cleaning cloth, and I'd recommend a lens brush and an air blower. That's really all you need. DO NOT USE THE MOISTURE FROM YOUR BREATH TO CLEAN! You may think this is a good idea, but all it does is leaves streaks. And DO NOT blow onto the lens to remove a spec of dust or dirt. You blow bits of saliva onto the lens when you do so, and they are really hard to clean off.

If you zoom with a fisheye, you're a dumbass.
If you zoom with a wide conversion, you're a dick.

The reason I say these things... Fisheye and wide conversion lenses ARE NOT THE SAME THING! Anyone out there with a "fisheye" lens that stays in focus when you zoom, just know this, IT IS NOT A FISHEYE LENS! It's a wide conversion lens. The only time it is acceptable to zoom in on a fisheye is if you're only trying to reduce vignetting in your footage. In lamens terms, vignetting is the black in the corners of wide angle footage.

As for the anti-shake settings. The lens looking like it is rocking around on footage, only happens when you use a wide conversion lens. At least in my experience. With a high quality fisheye, it will not do this. Whenever I recommend a lens for a camera, I always say to buy a Century/Schneider .3x fisheye lens. For a 33-35mm camera, they only run you $300-350 depending on where you buy. Keep in mind you can use and they usually suply you with step up/down rings. And they are absolutely worth the money. As far as I'm concerned you will not find a higher quality lens. For a VX or HDV cam, they run about $1,000. Once again, worth the money for the quality.

Thank God :

If you wanna zoom with your camera, loose the fish eye, it is useless.
And yes the aim of a fish eye is to be close to the subject, so please be close to your rider

4) DONT USE FAKE FISHEYES
5) GET IN CLOSE, FISHEYES ARENT THERE FOR A PRETTY CIRCLE, THEY ARE FOR A WIDER ANGLE.
6) IF YOU HAVE ALOT OF VIG, ZOOM IN SLIGHTLY TO GET RID OF MOST OF IT.
7) TAKE THE FISHEYE OFF, ALOT!!!!!!!!!! YOU SHOULD NOT BE USING A FISHEYE FOR EVERY GOD DAMN CLIP.
8) DONT SHAKE LIKE A CRACK HEAD ON DETOX, NUFF SAID
9) IF YOU'RE FILMING LINES WITH IT, FOLLOW CLOSE, AND GO LOW AND AIM SOMEWHAT HIGH, BUT YOU SHOULD STILL BE ABLE TO SEE THE DECK AND THE GROUND!!!
10) AGAIN, TURN OFF STEADY SHOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I CANT STAND THIS

and i disagree with josh on the vx thing. dont get a vx1. just because it has a pretty handle and gold colors when you white balance off the sky and allll the skaters are using it, doesnt mean its good. its 15 years old. might as well have movies being shot in 35mm film instead of a red one. get what you can afford. if you are aiming in the sub 300 range, dont get a flip or any camcorder that looks like it, and dont get a camcorder with no threads (under filter size if it says no, it has no threads) if you are in the 600 range, you can get a refurbished hv20 on ebay for 400 bucks. also hf200 for not much either. sub 1000 same thing. hv or hf. now if you are going for the 1000-2000 plus, try getting an hd camcorder. look around. if you are past 2000 and are looking at this for advice you should probably not get an expensive camcorder and if you are in the 16000- 1000000 then get a red one or imax camera, although i dont think it takes a fisheye. but whatever you do, dont get a vx1. i got way too carried away.

That's one of the most unintelligent comparisons I've ever heard. I'm honestly baffled at how absolutely uneducated you can be in certain subjects, yet seem to think you know so much. You are the definition of ignorant. Just about 95% of major Hollywood films are still, and will for a long time to come, filmed on 35mm or even up to 65.5mm film, but there's been a grand total of about 10 (probably even less) movies solely shot on the Red One in the history of film making. You are stupid, very fucking stupid.

no the point was everything is switching over. and not up to 65, its up to 70mm. and slowly everyone is switching to digital. which is the point of that post.

and movie count for red is somewhere around 22 and there are 2 shows using red at least. but this is about fisheyes

65.5mm and then printed to 70mm, don't try me.
MiniDV and HDV are the exact same medium, so once again your comparison is retarded.
You were talking about quality, which is once against irrelevant, since their is no advantage in the Red One over 35mm film in resolution/image quality.
You are wrong.

mini dv and hdv use the same tapes, but thats it.

the fucking point is that the vx is old and there is no point in using it. jesus.
and this is about fisheyes, dont start a gay argument about camcorders.

MiniDV and HDV...the difference is only in resolution, has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH DIGITAL vs. ANALOG...so shut the fuck up.
There most definitely is a point in using it a VX as well, I personally prefer the look of a SD camera on a TV, vs. a letterboxed HD version, downcompressed to SD. Sorry, but the cost of production in a blu-ray burned DVD is enormous and with such a little consumer base, it's absolutely non-nonsensical at this point. So maybe if you're doing a TINY bit more than slamming your shit footage on youtube, then you may consider going the SD route at this point. So yes, there is a point yea shitfucker.
