I know what these are, but i don't really understand how an oatmeal tube can take a picture. Please explain.

Basically,
it works just like a camera,
You put blu-tac on the inside and then put a sheet of photo paper on that, not exposing it to light while doing that.
Have duct-tape or whatever over the 'pin-hole', and take it outside, sit it on something solid, point open your 'shutter', or pinhole, depending on lighting conditions for about a second or so.
Then develop the paper as you normally would.
Did it in photography last year
Might make one soon for kicks.

its just basic physics. light travels in a straight line even though it bounces in every direction. light travels through a point outside, through the pinhole, and onto and opposite side on the film/paper. thats why negatives come out upside down and backwards. if you can understand and visualize whats happening, then you can understand how any camera captures light. it just gets more complicated with lenses and mirrors.

I can't find it, but this guy made a hole the size of a quarter on the side of his trailer, and the image from the outside was projected onto the wall, but backwards.

hahah sounds sick. the biggest one ive heard of that actually uses film/paper was made out of an old refrigerator hahahah

The hold was 1/4 inch, and had a shutter of 35minutes onto a piece of cloth, covered in Silver nitrate? I believe, which makes it light sensitive.
Its the biggest pinhole camera in the world.

I'm still really confused, but i think you attach a piece of blank film negative to the opposite side and it puts a picture on it?

Eric, i think those photos youve taken with it look really good for some reason, simplicity is bliss i guess.
and it must feel pretty cool taking pics with a camera you made.

yea its pretty gnar. and since its super wide angle because of the way the paper sits inside, its really hard to compose. like you have no idea what its gonna look like till you take it to the darkroom haha.
