I have a probelm with my xbox 360, I need a solution.

Ok so i bought a 3 month xbox live supscription today.
I got home connected the ethernet cable from broadband modem to xbox 360
and nothing.
Its say i dont have a connection.
Just wondering fi this has happened to anyone else?
Is there a solution?

test your connection?
make sure its plugged in right.
make sure its the ethernet cable.
make sure your modem is on?
try all that then post again.
