Ok, so a bit of background info. I got expelled from school for the rest of the year. Don't ask. And now I'm in this homeschool program for the rest of the year. One of my electives at my old school was Mulitimedia, and I can't do that at home. So the homeschool place let me choose some other random hobby to do, and photography always interested me, so I chose that. But I need a camera.

And thats why I posted this. When it comes to buying a camera theres so many options I feel completely overwhelmed and have NO idea what to get. I was browsing the "Your setup" thread, and it seems that alot of people either had Canon Rebel Xt's or Nikon D40's. So I kind of figured that those would be good options for me, too. Unless you guys could give me another better option, I would appreciate your input on which one I should get. As of right now I'm not worried about getting flashes or new lenses or any of that other stuff, but I probably will eventually, so I guess compatability for those items is another factor. Sorry for being so hopeless haha.

if your just starting out, a great camera would be a nikon d40 or a d50 but remember if you find a cheaap on make sure it comes with a lense cause just a body will do nothing.

I think a D40 would be better, or D50, as Nikons are easier to understand i hear. I hate canon rebels though haha

if youre deciding to just start out really should do film, spending 600 700 on a camera is ridunk.

go on ebay get a nikon em
thing is like 50 bucks including lenses and maybe theyll throw in a flash if youre lucky.

do black and white film, get yourself a red filter.
its fun and cheap as shit.

explain how d40s suck?
have you actually used one for more than 10 minutes?
ive seen pictures taken with d40's that look just as good as pictures taken with a d200.
so don't talk shit on d40's just because you don't happen to like them.

I liked using my freinds rebel, but then again i suck at taking photos so what do i no. I really want to ask how you got expelled haha.

your limited to lenses with an autofocus motor if you want a lens that autofocuses

just get a d50

Ok right now I'm learning the basics of photography by using this pretty nice film camera that my mom gave me haha. I'm using black and white film, im just trying to learn composition and stuff, the basics.

But my dad said if I can get through this year in the homeschooling thing with a 3.0 gpa, he'll buy me a nikon d50 with an extra flash and a slave. :)
