Intel or AMD?

I've been looking at both processors. Primarily their dual core's I was planning on purchasing Intel's Pentium D 820 (2.8Ghz) but then I was reading some Maximum PC Magazine and stuff and people were raving about AMD"s Dual Cores and how much they kick Intel Chips asses adn stuff. From benchmarks and other comparisons including prices, I really don't know what to get I want to keep the price relatively around 300. So please if you can help me in anyway it would be greatly appreciated.
