Locking the folding mech

I have an old A model scooter and i was wondering if i wanted to lock the folding mech, should i just take out the three bolts and replace them with ones that completely lock or how should i do this?

what if i just went to a hardware store and bought some bolts to lock it would that be alright?

Bolts for locking your folding mech
Get these at your local hardware store (Brandon Kilbury's sizes)
-2 1/2" by 3/8" bolt
-2 1/2" by 5/16" bolt
-2 1/2" by 5/16" bolt
-washers

i know that but what kind of washers thats what i dont get
just enough so theres no space and so its real tight? cause i just wanna make sure
