Loose crown race

Ok, i have just changed from riding proto seniors to vert x smx v2s, and my crown race just slides on and off my smx forks and when i have everything put together and i push down and pull up my bars (with pressure) my headset creaks (i didn't have this problem with my seniors and the only difference between them and my smx is the loose crown race so I'm assuming that it is the problem).
What can i do to secure my crown race onto my forks? and i want to do do something good not just put some tape on it, etc.

On my Lucky smx fork it's loose to. but mine doesn't creak.
Id say, wrap 2 layers of electrical tape around your fork race,
then hit on your crown race, then cut off the excess tape.
Also, Try greasing your headset. That could be it too.

You're correct, the Crown race goes on top, hence "crown" being something you wear on the top of your head. It's normally in the top cap. Fork race is the thing that goes onto the fork race holder.

if you think it's the crown race put tape around where the crown race is suppose to go.

Okay, just wondering, whats the thing that goes on the top bearings called? Certainly not a fork race?

The one that goes on your fork is the crown race. The ring with the slit in it that goes under the top seal is the compression ring. /done

If your crown race is loose you won't be able to get all the play out of the headset. It should be a really tight fit. Tape won't last. If its really loose buy a can of Coke and cut a piece of that out as a sleeve. If its only slightly loose go to a car parts place and get some Bearing retainer and put that under it. That stuff is super strong just never use it as locktight on threads as you will never get it undone.
If its a cartridge/sealed headset you could put a slit in the crown race so it can close up when you tighten the compression. Lots of newer headsets now have slits in the crown race. This will probably only work if its an aluminium crown race.
