MOD: Locking a suspension fork.

Step 1: Materials.

2x - 2 1/2 inch long 1/4 bolts threaded all the way down
2x - 1/4 nylon locking bolt
6x - 1/4 washers
2x - 1/4 ID 1 inch long spacers
2x - 3/8 ID 1 inch long spacers
Drill with 1/4 and 5/16 drill bits
Suspension forks with springs, tabs, and all other junk removed

ALL this was found at Lowe's. Believe me with the bolts, they MUST be threaded the whole way.

Step 2: Drill hole for bolts.

1/4 inch first, test with the bolts. You may have to widen the tops and such, hence the reason behind the larger bit.

Step 3: Long spacers.

Insert the smaller spacer into the larger one. It should fit tight. Try to get them even. Mine were hard to get even so I put a board on top and applied pressure, worked awesome.

Step 4: Assemble.

Bolt heads through the top, 1 spacer before the long spacers, 2 on the bottom of it, nylon nut on the very bottom. Tighten.

RIDE.

Notes:

The bolt must be threaded so that the long spacers fit. If it is not threaded the spacers get stuck when the threads end up widening to round.

This ends with a wheel that spins extremely smooth, it spins like it is loose the whole time. It does seem that the axles loosen a lot quicker than a normal pro fork. Just keep that in mind.

All this was bought at Lowe's, Home Depot did not have everything. I tried there first.

Very solid and smooth, worth it even for an extra fork just to have.

EDIT: The only reason for my edit was to resize one picture, it was stretching. Ticked me off.

thats because a pro fork has a little give in it so it is springy and it hold the axle tight, whereas that has barely any give.

nice mod. i might do this one day

mines been done, but used sockets for the ratchets, they are way to big for any kind of bolt i will use, so i used them. they look sick to me, but these are so simple and easy to make, good idea

Probably not, because if you notice in the pictures, there is that point where it would pivot with suspension and it almost touches the wheel now. If you could somehow get rid of that you could probably get 140mm on. Estimate only.

you could use a dremel and cut it off

Tim, it holds together the fork. I would just have to get two smaller bolts that fit well, and put them in, then take that metal tab off. The thing that is the problem is the hardest to see. It is a bolt held on by what looks like black bearings in the picture but actually are just black plastic spacers.
