A lot of great riders do heelwhips instead of tailwhips. Eric Ostrom being one of them. Tailwhip whatever way feels comfortable. But if you want to get a little tech, learn them both ways, so that you can mix them up a little.
I ride Regular (righty), and kick behind me, but I can't do a full 360 whip unless I spin opposite 360. Otherwise I do a 360 downside whip. It's all in adjusting to feel comfortable with both.
