New To Scooting Have A Couple Questions

Hey I just registered here and I really want to get scootering. I just wanted to introduce myself and I had a quick question. So I am going to start out by buying a Razor Ultra Pro and upgrading it a little. I was just wondering why you would need a SCS clamp over a double clamp or quadruple clamp or whatever else is out there. Also what clamp does the ultra pro come with? If someone could explain this to me that would be awesome!

a scs is a compression clamp you need a thread less fork and a thread less headset to use it and a ultra pro comes with a double or their new triple clamp if your lucky

SCS is a compression system, it doesn't just clamp your bars. It's a more efficient form of holding your headset together with a threadless fork, instead of a threaded fork since most are prone to snapping at the fork tube. SCS eliminates the need for the slit at the bottom of handlebars, where bars often crack/break. Threadless forks are also a lot stronger than threaded forks, since threads are a weak spot and threadless forks don't have threads. SCS is compressed down the a bolt/washer to a starnut to compress your headset and prevent any wobble/shake, which can damage your headset and get you hurt. Then the clamp is clamped to the fork and bars to hold everything together. An SCS is totally different than any regular clamp.

Ultra Pros come with a regular double clamp.

If your going to keep the stock headset I strongly suggest cleaning it and re greasing it. Just pull it apart (note where all of the parts come from) and soak the bearings in petrol or turps or kerosene or anything like that. Make sure you dry them off real good. Then when putting it back together put some sort of grease or oil on the bearings to prevent wear and minimise friction. I use 3 in 1 oil or white lithium grease, but there are many other things that you can use. Alot of people suggest vaseline, I think it freezes up in the cold though. You can use like, sewing machine oil, other types of grease and chain lube etc. This makes your headset much faster and smoother if you do it right.

If you're starting out, keep the ultra pro stock until things break, then replace as you need.

Get the ultra pro high and cut the bars down to your specifications, most people (including myself) use the bottom of their nads as a reference of a comfortable / good riding height measurement. Width of RUP bars high is 18 inches, I'd cut down to 16 since you're just starting, that width is good for tricks and stability, not too wide or narrow.

Change the grips immediately though, i'd recommend going to a bike store and feeling the grips for yourself, buy whatever feels best.

Next, buy a new set of wheels, ONCE YOUR WHEELS BREAK! I'd recommend Demon wheels from Titetoyz, they are cheap and good for the price.

That's all you really need to start off.

DO NOT WORRY ABOUT SCS' OR ANY COMPRESSION UNTIL LATER ON YOUR SCOOTERING CAREER.

yes^^^ except i wouldnt recomend demons, yes they r cheap but they r crap wheels in my opinion. pluss 110 is waaaay better. 1 pair of eaglesport wheels lasted me like 8 months and demons r on there 3rd week and they r on the last thread of existance. luckily i wasted more of my money and got 2 pairs so ill at least have maybe i more month of riding b4 trying out sum proto wheels.
