Where are you taking classes?

I know some courses require a DSLR and the Nikon won't work for class.

As a basic point & shoot it is not a bad choice

I'm taking classes because when I asked for a Point and shoot, As you said for my birthday she said "YOUR SCHOOL OFFERS FREE CAMERA CLASSES" .

Already signed up and I don't even have the camera yet ..

So should i go with it ? It's in my price range .

Mine does too, im in that class now,

Honestly imo, you would be better off buying a used Nikon D70 and getting a 35mm lens. It might be a little more expensive($40-50 if even that.) but it would be worth it. It's a perfect camera to learn on and if you already know what you're doing.

I usually push people towards the SLR but it looks like the k12 Class focuses more on the Digital Media and manipulation/presentation than real Photo 101 type of class.

If you can get a used DSLR as mentioned it wouldn't be a bad choice but No Video capabilities.

So... just get the Nikon.
dis be my company

stay with a point and shoot or mega zoom, having an slr and not using how to use it is pointless, and borccoli 1, you have some great photos, its good to know theres other real photographers on this site
