I learned by taking my wheel off my fork and trying it on carpet stationary.. helps you find the balance point and gives you knowledge on how to hold it.

The main key is just practice, practice and even more practice..
The thing that sucks about learning nose manny's is that your gonna fall forward a lot, if your not falling forward at all then your doing something wrong cuz it kinda means your not doing it right.

If you are not already good at hang fives, work on those some more.
Forks and head tube angle make a huge difference.
I couldn't balance at all on a scorcher fork because the legs are longer.
VertX Linx fork has been the best for me, it has short legs.
A steeper head tube angle also helps.
This is how I do nose manuals:
front foot is more forward on the deck
knees pointing ahead
speed is slow to moderate
hop or lean in to balance point
stare down at the ground
grip bars tight
arms rigid
heels up off the deck
when back wheel starts to drop shift weight onto toes
when back wheel gets too high shift weight back onto balls of feet

In a few years you'll start to get the hang of it.
