One-Peice bar question

Alright so my dad welds crap all the time but he welds steel, not aluminum. And the attachment for the welder to weld aluminum is like $400. So has anyone ever made one-peice bars out of steel? (and yes I know steel is heavier than aluminum) or piping?

If someone could answer this that would be good

yea i have made them out of steel. they are a lil heavy but if you weld it good they should NEVER snap on you. well atleast mine will never snap haha

alright thanks. I'm 4'11 what would be a good size/height for me?

ya i use to ride 14 high but than i raised my bars so they were right below my pockets and its perfect, easier for alot of things

what type of welder does he have? if its a MIG or a TIG, he just needs to change the wire feed/rod to aluminum, which is $10, and change the gas to 100% argon, which is about $15.

if he's welding with an ARC, then it probably has too much power to weld the bars, which are usually thin steel.

you can weld without an arc lol. i assume by ARC welding you mean SMAW? if you do then yea its too much for metal that thin. ive done 1/8" with SMAW but even that is really pushing it.

no i'm saying you should only weld bars with a MIG or TIG. i said that if you use an SMAW/ARC welder, then you're going to penetrate the metal way too much

get it welded at a welding shop shouldn't cost that much

can someone please tell me is there much of a weight difference between steel/chrome and aluminuim???? :)

aluminum is much less dense (lighter) but you do need more of it for decent strength. but if you wanted to make bars out of something light aluminum is good but 4130 chromoly is a little heavier but much stronger.
