Linux and Ubuntu are not for the everyday user. Windows and Mac are simple. Install your OS, it obtains your drivers for your and you are good to go. Linux on the other hand, you have to hope someone made a driver for your hardware, then usually go through some ridiculous process to get it working right. If you are having trouble with your Windows or Mac machine, you can call your computers manufacturer for help, try doing that with a Linux machine. Also there isn't any decent video editing software for Linux (nothing compares to Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro plus Adobe After Effects).
Windows, everything works, Mac, everything works, Linux, you better hope theres an open source alternative to your software or have fun trying to get the software running Windows software in Wine.

You're a douche bag. Finding all the drivers to get a Linux install running properly is such a waste of time... not to mention trying to find a decent open source alternative to software and trying to get Windows games/software running on Linux is a waste of time.
Your attempt at being some Linux elitist isn't working. Linux works great for my web server, Linux sucks for the every day user. Everyone trying to push Ubuntu to be user friendly OS is stupid. They rave about not having to worry about viruses and blah blah... but the more you push it on people the more interest there will be for someone to create a virus for it.

anyway, I've been using TinyXP for quite some time (a torrented minimalistic fork based off of Windows XP SP3). It runs incredibly smoothly, and is especially ideal for computers with low specs (Netbooks come to mind).

Also, 7 requires less power to run than Vista. Shit it runs fine on my 10 year old Dell Dimension that I never did anything to except upgrade it to 1GB RAM. Ubuntu is going to be faster, but its seriously not worth it to the everyday computer user who is already used to their software they use everyday. Getting a graphics card setup on Linux is hell.
edit: Also for any Windows users that don't have virus protection grab this - http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/ - program is solid and free.

You guys have bits of this stuff correct and others incorrect. First of all, Linux is only a waste of time if you don't know what the hell you're doing. You can do so much more in Linux you can crack Wifi, such as WEP and WPA.But whatever. And Linux isn't really that hard.
I was actually working on my own operating system back a couple years. When i was like 11. Lol. I was such a nerd lol, even though thats not necessarily a bad thing. I could program in C++, JAVA, C# and Visual Basic. I can only do C# and VB now, but it gives me a backup if my dream-job of starting a small scooter store fails.

Word. I know a some stuff about computers but I'm mostly a Windows guy. If you ask me to compile and install a program on Linux I'll know what your talking about but I have no idea how to do it. Try telling some kid on here to download and install a Linux distro and compile a program and install it... they won't even get past the part of installing Linux.

Everything after Windows XP just sucks, Vista is terrible, and 7 is unbearable. It seems like they are trying to make Windows even more like Mac, and it's lame.
