43mm filter thread got me suprised a bit, a 3-chip camcorder so small and only 2k USD? It looks bigger on the picture, like a 55mm filtered cam. Why is it so god damn cheap while other pro cams with solid state memory are over 4k? In Camcorderinfo's article it says Panasonic is blurring the line between pro and consumer. So does this camera have still less controls than a pro or what, can you please explain that Brian since I'm not enough adequate to compare 3-chip camcorders? I'm wondering when they are going to release an european version of it. And I'm not sure if the HMC40 would be a good step-up replacement for daily-base use to isntead of my current HDR-CX11 cam even though its a single-chip cam to which i've already got some 37mm-compatible wide-angle, fisheye, telephoto and macro lenses/converters.

This would be the HD version of the DVC30. DVC30 is the 'watered down' version of the DVX100, no XLR inputs, no scene files (no 24p also), but full manual controls (iris, focus, shutter). So its the 'water down' version of the HVX200.
So this thing records in 1080P AVC HD codec onto SD cards, no expensive P2 cards to purchase (AVC HD is 'the' HD format to be using right now, IMO). Has 24P (maybe 30P i didn't read into it enough). Manual controls (focus, iris, shutter). Has some type of scene files (read gamma settings in the features tab). HDMI out. 3 CMOS sensor (opposed to 3CCD, which some people would not prefer, research that on your own though, im not getting into rolling shutter and all that junk). 43mm threads mean it will work with the baby death Century 'redesigned' for the HV20-30+Optekas 43mm baby death clone (which i would buy over Century's).
Personally, i would sell my DVX for this thing, if i had a editing rig decent enough to edit 1080P on. This thing is amazing for people that think the HVX/DVX is overwhelming, but want to have a camera that produces a more professional picture than a consumer (coughsoccer mom cough) 3ccd you find at your local electronic store. Panasonic pwns Sony and Canon's faces off all day with their cameras, for some reason, i don't know why most studios/indies/businesses still prefer to buy Sony and Canon, when Panny always offers the most bang for your money.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a "hack" for 1080P/60P without audio sometime after release, if scene files are editable like the HVX.

In time the quality of AVCHD has progressed dramatically and there have been articles where pros say that the AVCHD has reached the quality that (Mini)DV tapes offer. Plus, when using AVCHD, it's just way easier to edit: no capturing from camera to computer, just copy-paste the clips/files you want and edit. Plus, some cameras offer face-detection and date information which allows you to search your clips either by the faces which were detected in the clips, or by dates. Just the browsing itself is already so easy and fast comparing to tape-recorders where you have to fastforward or rewind in order to find your desired clip.Jordan said:
