It is a Fun thing, Back in the Original 151 I could Rhyme of the Names and Stats of them all, Now that there like 450 I sorta lost track or don't care or....
I will get Diamond/pearl for the DS (I'm saving for one of those) and Battle Revolution for the wii after they both come out, but Till Then.....

for everyone that says they get boring: go do some research. if you want a CRAZY IN DEPTH RPG, these games are for you. there is soooo much shit hidden beneath the kiddiness

all the hidden values, things like EV (effort value) raising, tons of new features to make it easier, such as a guy at the battle frontier that helps you figure our your pokemons IV's (individual value). there is tons more, but i don't feel like typing it haha. this is just the tip of the iceburg, believe me.

It is actually pretty fun. Good thing pokemon games are so straight forward that you dont even have to read the text. I started off with the penguin. Out of the three starter pokemon there are a penguin(water), monkey(fire), and a turtle(grass). I have beaten a couple of gyms and I have a decent team of pokemon right now.
