If you didnt see my post in the Partical Proto Deck thread, i finished the proto fork. I have two different designs i would like to use, and i want you guys to decide which one to go with. In both designs i will have the same fork legs.

Design 1 is the steel fork legs welded to a steel fork tube about the same size as an sr fork.

Design 2 is the steel fork legs bolted to a solid aluminum bar for the fork tube.

I have only tested design 2 so far, and it has held up well, the main problem is that you would need to have partical bars, or buffs new one pieces in order to run them with a compression system. With Design 1, you could run a normal compression system, or the partical system that eliminates star nuts with any bars.

design 1 seems way more solid. I don't understand how you'd bolt the legs of a fork onto the tube?? Welding it seems like a way better idea + you could use a compression system.

Dre, the one where it would be bolted is solid aluminum, its not a tube its round bar. I cant weld aluminum, and you cant weld aluminum to steel anyway. And yea I will be selling them, but no sooner than the end of summer.

actually its not as heavy as you think, iv been riding it for about a week, and i can hardly notice a difference from stock. I was worried about the bolt too, but so far no problems. Here is a diagram I drew up to make it easier to understand.

ye design two is pretty much what I thought of when you say bolted on. But you are going to have some kind of groove in the bottom of the forktube that the bottom part fits into right? Because then you have to machine it and stuff and I don't know how you would achieve that unless you get them made at a shop. imo that's the only way it would work, because then the bottom part wouldn't be able to swivel around much. And you'd also have to have a hella thick bolt holding it on otherwise it'll snap so fast..

yea I have a 3/8 in bolt holding it on, and it goes up 1 in into the fork tube(bar) so its strong enough. To keep it from swiveling, i grinded altrinating grooves in both parts, and that is working good.
 
The bolt would have to thread all the way through the fork and leave a good inch or two at the top to screw into the bars. Plus solid aluminum bar just sounds heavy and stuff...

Solid aluminium isn't much stronger than a thick-wall aluminum, no? I'm kinda guessing, but I thought that was the case.

not thick enough. Get at least a 1/2 inch or thicker bolt and hella washers, that should do the trick. If it works, then congrats, because that's a pretty good idea because chances are you don't have to replace the whole fork when you break it.
 
i dont like how in #2 its solid aluminum or that you cant use a CP system

but on the plus side if you somehow do snap the aluminum you can unbolt it and replace it instead of getting a whole new fork

If you get SR team bars and a big ass threaded rod, then you can have a ghetto compression system lol..
