noob question but....how do you get an image of your desktop?

I'm pretty sure you just press the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard, and make sure that you're desktop is showing (like on your moniter) and then open a New Bitmap Image.bmp and then edit it in Paint and then just paste it there. If I'm wrong correct me, I'm not really sure if that's right.
