This is a completely nooby question and i did search.

The sleeve that goes over the axel between the two bearings in your wheel, do you need it? (they are in stock wheels) i put them in my GM's which have ovalised and the bearings will not come out. So i dont have any to put in my new wheels.

yes its called a wheel spacer and without it your bearings will bend in until the wheel can't move and is bent, but with the spacer eventually they will get tight enough that you can't tighten them any more and the wheel will spin nice and freely
