it's not really confusing once you understand it. your headset must be compressed so it doesn't wobble everywhere. compression also helps make it so your headset doesnt break and that the bearings last longer. you need something to compress your headset, like a compression system. when you have threaded forks, the nuts that you thread on the fork are the compression system. when you have a threadless fork, you need some other kind of way to compress your headset, since there are no threads. scs, hic, ics, and hella dank compression alll do this. look in the compression super thread for how these work.

so in answer to your previous question you CAN use a threadless headset on your threaded forks, but you must use the lock nut from your threaded headset so that you can compress it.

it depends. you gotta compress your headset, if you get threaded, the compression is the bolt that threads on the fork. if you get threadless, you got to get scs, hic, or ics. i'll let you do your own research on those.
