Scooter input appreciated

Hi all
I want to buy a scooter for my 9 year old. he's trashed his Razor by spending hours on the street/curbs/skateboard parks. I've been doing some reading on what brands and components to look at, but it is hard to know what completes are actually decent.

I'm looking for something with alloy wheels, threadless fork and headset, and won't fall apart. Price around $200 because I'm also paying for hockey and mtn biking and skiing :(

One website said look at a Dominator Commander or MGP 4VX Team, then I read elsewhere to look at an AO Delta.

Thoughts on what scooters hold up and which break down?

Thanks !

depends how your son is riding them. If your son is grinding on unwaxed street/concrete curbs then he should probably avoid that as that will break any scooter for sure. i'd recommend he grinds surfaces such as metal that has been previously waxed to make sure the scooter wont grind down in a few days.

the scooters you listed are all solid, strong, and wont fall apart. i think you should give the choice to your son to which one he prefers (as he is going to be the one thats riding it). all the specs are similar and good quality between the 3.

Being a rider for Madd Gear myself, I can ensure that the VX4 Team is a good quality setup. It is very inexpensively priced and you get some pretty high spec parts for what you pay for. Keep in mind you can always replace each part individually after they wear out. The scooter may also be more appropriately sized for your son, as well as the weight itself. There is also a variety of colours your son can choose from with the VX4, while the other scooters only have about 1-2 to choose from. The deck also has a flat underside, so your son can have more stability when doing his preferred grinds as well.

Through my personal opinion, i think that the VX4 is the best option for your son to have as you get good parts for what you pay for. I ride the higher model (VX4 Extreme) in which most aspects of it are similar to the VX4 Team, and mine is holding up perfectly well and strong, and feels great to ride all round. Its also the preferred scooter by many people worldwide.

i would go with an mgp vx4 i didnt really look into it until i won a vx4 at The Vault Pro Scooters (scooter shop} in a raffle. its pretty nice and solid the bars are kinda short for me because im somewhat tall, but they would be perfect for your 9 year old

Scratch all the completes you are looking at. I by no means favor a company over any other, but I have been working at a scooter store for a few years now and have seen what holds up and what doesn't first hand. If you would like to know the reason's why I think those choices aren't ideal I can answer that, but to save some time this is what I recommend.

For the $200 price point you have a few scooters that are decent, and one that is above the rest. The AO Delta and the AO Beta we sell at the store. both right at $200 and are DECENT for the money. We get both of them in the store with issues on different things. The Beta has a grind plate on the bottom, meaning your son can grind on basically anything he wants and it will save the deck from getting eaten up from curbs or anything he is grinding on. BUT, the grind plate add's a decent amount of weight to the scooter. For a 9 year old boy, the heavier it is the less fun it will be, thats just coming from experience watching kids ride.

The scooter I recommend is the Envy Prodigy. I have sold hundreds threw the store and haven't had a single problem with one of them. Not one of the Prodigy's that have left the store have came back with any issues. Weight wise the scooter is one of the lightest feeling scooters I have come across and every kid that jumps on it too try it out loves it.

I have parents come in all the time with the same price point in mind and have no idea what is good and what isnt. The prodigy hits the nail on the head in every aspect, its good for just cruising around if you are still a beginner or if you are flipping at the skateparks. If the OP has anymore questions about anything feel free to give me a call, my name is Christian 858-551-4500. Im not trying to get you to buy anything from us i have just been involved with the industry for over 10 years now and have seen it all haha, if you have any questions about anything by all means, thats what im here for!
