Scooter weight???

It's harder to accelerate because of the bigger mass. Your momentum is higher, so it's harder to lose speed because of friction or going up ramps etc. A heavy deck moves your center of mass lower, making riding more stable and easier to land stuff.

My current scooter weighs about 14lbs, which is pretty good for a long steel deck. I still haven't got my front scooterflips back, this might be also because of the bmx grips. It's harder to whip around mostly because the deck is 22" long (what affects the whipability is the difference in the moment of inertia which depends on both mass and length), it's all about getting used to it though - Ive landed a few doubles on flat on it and before, I couldn't even do them consistently on a normal scooter. The scooter Im making now might be a lot heavier, due to the steel head, double neck and fork. Prolly won't be as heavy as my old one though.

haha pete I don't think it makes THAT much of a difference..

Yeah, you might be right, it surely makes a huge difference when keeping balance while in the air though. Now Im even scared of launching off a ramp on a stock scooter because it's too light.

I do the same, but i ride stock wheels. I reinforce my deck with two millimeter thick steel bars and use grade 8 bolts everywhere, and my scooter weighs anywhere from 13-15lbs, but i still ride it, and i do better whips and spins on heavy scooters than light scooters.
i also have reall heavy (like 3 pound) 15" bars through my t-tube, but the stregnth gain is totally better than the weight gain. I'd rather ride a solid 20lb. scooter than a sketchy carbonfibre or unmodded pro model.
