This planet is in a great spot, we rarely see huge asteroids coming to close, and we can still fix it. Our civilization is moving up to a type one civilization which controls everything about the environment, and soon, within the next 100 years. So he's right, we should stay positive because we're going to be here for a very long time, and by the time there's imminent threat to our survival, technology will be advanced enough to fix it or at least keep the planet habitable.

We can't see it, we can detect it, and through a lot of equipment, figure out all the variables to see if it's habitable. We probably only know that it's livable because of redshift and blueshift effects, which can show us the composition of the atmosphere. Combine a similar atmospheric composition with a planet in the habitable zone, and you have a planet that can theoretically sustain life. But knowing Fox news, the scientists actually probably said it was only a tiny, tiny chance that there is life. They blow stuff way out of proportion.
