shin splints..

fucking suck. i got them from track and all ive been doing for a week is iceing and wrapping my leg, but they never get better. they could be long term like up to where you feel them as an adult, but its some of the worst pain ever to run/jog. anyone else ever experience these?

Ok, but how do you know if you have it? Is it like that feeling when you run it feels like your shin is gonna snap in half? haha

"The purpose of the muscles of the anterior shin (tibialis anterior) is to dorsiflex the foot (raise the toe). It may not be obvious why a muscle which raises the toe can be stressed or injured by running, given that it is not responsible for propulsion. The reason is that unskilled runners overstride, and land heavily on the heel with each footstrike. When this happens, the forefoot rapidly slaps down to the ground. Effectively, the foot, which is dorsiflexed prior to making contact with the ground, is forcefully extended. This forceful extension of the toe causes a corresponding rapid stretch in the attached muscles. A reflex in the muscles responds, causing a powerful contraction. It is this eccentric contraction which leads to muscle soreness and possible injury to the muscle, tendon or connective tissue."

i had them all through sixth and seventh grades, not bad in eighth, and i don't have them any more.
1. so maybe you'll grow out of it.
2. you could do as freelance suggested, and push through it.
3. you could just ignore it.
4. sometimes, they just go away.
hope you heal! :)

meh, doesn't sound too smart to me.

ill just have to not run too often between now and the end of the school year, then run none of summer. i hope they get better though.

nah, that's what you do to get rid of em. You first rest for a day or too after it happens and then keep running and shit so the muscles grow back stronger there.
