remember is the act of remembering, it is something you do which makes you think of the thing you want to remember. remembering is the action which recalls the memory
reminding however is if you are going to make yourself/someone else remember something somehow. giving someone a hint could remind them of the answer to something
for example i remember being a child
but i would remind you what being a child is like if i explained what it was like being a child (and you would be reminded as you have been a child at some point)
