Sr ideas!

Ive been thinking about SR a lot and i got a couple new ideas, just wondering if anybody thought theyd be good ideas or not.

What if the sell your stuff thread was split up into different sections? One thread for complete scooters. a different thread for wheels. another for bars. it would make it more convenient for buyers and sellers. and it would help create a little more organization. a lot of bike forums i visit have it set up into different sections. And would that affect how much bandwidth is being used?

Another idea i had would be for a new member entry test. like, just to make sure people arent coming in that know nothing about scooters. im thinking it wouldn't be hard, just like general knowledge questions. like a head tube from a steer tube. or a t tube from a cross bar.
I was thinking about that more and kinda realized it might drive away a lot of people if the were brand new to the sport. but maybe have like a week long thing were people could get to know SR, learn the ropes, but they couldnt post in threads, they could read and browse like most other members and learn about scooters and whats going on in the world of scooters. just a thought.

These were just a couple random thoughts i came up with.

ive thought about that too but look at the n00bs who have been on here a few months still making dumb threads. and about spliiting up the sell your stuff section, what do the people do who sell all of thier spare parts that they dont need anymore, do they make new threads or what

for the first one i think it'd be easier if it's just split up into a buying section and a selling section so if youre looking to sell something you can check the wanting to buy section and see iif someone wants whta youve got, or vice versa

Bold - Yeah, I agree with what your saying to an extent, but I think Chris has a better idea.

Italic - I think it would be a good idea, but more for like the forums and how to use them. Like teach them the search feature and what bumping threads is and how to use stickies, and other stuff like that instead of scooter knowledge. Them not knowing isn't the problem, them not knowing how to find the answer is. To be honest, we aren't very helpful giving them the answer either, we normally call them a noob and then tel them this is thread 1382496754354363643 about this and then the next person just quotes that person. Only a few people actually help the person.

Underline - You can do that at first before you have an account. I did it, but other people might not have the motivation to not post and just lurk for a bit. I think not being able to post would be the right idea, maybe just not being able to start new threads. This is not a possibility though, I don't think the forums that SR is on can have this ability.

definately a great idea
make them go through a tutorial that they can't skip to teach them to use it

That makes sense too. but like. a lotta bike threads do it buy every different part. like bottom bracket section. with people posting their bottom brackets for sale.
same thought. a section for deck. a section for bars, one for forks, one for wheels, and so on. and inside each thread, people post their item. a single item at a time. like if i have a set of bars for sale and a pro deck. id post the pro deck in the decks section. and the bars in the bar section.

Its essentually a classifieds section of a newspaper. and you post your "Ad" up and people can message you or post and buy it.
i was thinking the division would just make it easier to buy a certain part, without having to look through a bunch of different threads just to find a brake.

and thered be a Miscellaneous section for ipods. cameras. stuff like that.

thhat idea definately works but the only thing i think would be stupid is having like

10 different subforums and some of them would hardly get used, honestly how often does a break get sold? theres a few here and there but does it really deserve it's own section? that's all im worried about there'd be so much room to use but we couldnt use it all

Yeah, thats a good point. but i makes it so easy to find just what your looking for. but your right. it would be a lot of wasted space. but., a couple subsections would be handy. like. bars. decks. and wheels. and an everything else section.

Thats just pure genius.
and a tutorial would make everything so much better. and if people actually like, paid any attention. it would make life so much better for everyone.

like for a tutorial actually MAKE them do it, they can't pass to the next step or make an account until they actually do it and experience it.
say you have to search for 5 certain things before you go to the next step, then the next step is like edit four posts (not actually posted, but let them get the idea of how to edit and not double or triple post)

etc i d k

that makes a lot of sense and it would make everything better. it would teach people how to use the search feature, and how to avoid double posts.

and god hates triple post. thou who triple post shall be smighted from this earf.

Well SR teaches people more about scootering and makes the sport bigger and if we don't let people in because there new to scootering then there will alot less members

close being able to join and occasionally open it??? ive seen forums do this and they have no noobs
I get what your saying, but i think it would drive people away to much. because maybe they went to join and couldnt, theyd forget about the website and then they might lost interest in scooters.

Thats what i posted about in the first post. If we let them lurk, but they cant post then after a waiting period then they can post. after they take a little test or something. I like chris' idea better idea of making a tutorial on how to use SR. and if you didnt watch it. you couldnt post.

Adam please stop posting in here. your just quoting everything. and not even talking.

I wondering if anyone else has any ideas about SR?

I think there should be a feature where you can browse for riders based on location, riding style, age, number of years riding, ect. Also, there should be subforums (or at least stickys) for individual tricks everyone needs help with (eg, tailwhips, 360, briflip, ect) Voice chat/Video Chat would be cool too.

I agree with the whole tutorial thing you must do before joining. I see what you are saying about the test, but it should be incorperated into the tutorial (like, have a slideshow explainng scooter parts, mods, tricks, ect.) It would also be nice to incorperate history into the tutorial and test section as well, sort of a whos-who in scootering and SR.

idk about all these i think noobs should just get smarter but maybe before they join make a paragraph that they have to read or something. because when i first started on here i didnt do anything like the kids are these days, i think they just need some common sense

And maybe you could just have a forum section for them to ask questions instead of letting them just post new threads anywhere
