Starnut SMX problem.

so, i've hammered in 3 starnuts, the standard sized ones. (1 1/8). and it's hammered in a good half inch under the top oof the fork. and after i tighten my headset. right before it's fully tight. A "pop" happens then the starnut pulls out. And breaks.... and my headset wouldn't even be close to tight yet.
What should i do?

I used 3 random starnuts, why would some be bettter then the others??

Did you use one that came with your headset? and some are just badly made. Like some that have the threads a separate piece from the flanges are poorly made, so the thread part just pops out. I've seen some beast mode star nuts with integrated threads.

Oh but dude, is your SMX cut for an MGP? Because the fork is thicker after like an inch or so, and regular sized starnuts won't work. You need to get a 1 inch or 7/8 inch starnut if so.
